Social Forestry Asistance

Eco Wana Foundation in 2024 has completed a Social Forestry assistance project in West Sulawesi Province, in Forest Programme IV Sulawesi, which is a collaboration between the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry and the German Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KFW).

We have provided assistance in three different villages, namely Sasakan Village and Rante Kamase Village, and Lambanan Village, in Mamasa Regency, West Sulawesi Province to obtain forest area management permits through the Social Forestry scheme.

The desire to get legal access in managing forests is the main motivation for the community to apply for Social Forestry permits. The activities carried out started from identifying the biophysical potential of the proposed area along with the socio-economic conditions of the community and then mapping the proposed area. To gain legal access, community groups are accommodated in a Forest Farmers group (KTH), then assistance in the form of training and knowledge transfer to the community, to ensure the sustainability of sustainable forest management when Social Forestry permits have been obtained.
